My project needs 4 HP Photosmart E327 digital cameras for use in the classroom and on fieldtrips throughout the city of New York.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Mance's classroom raised $515
This project is fully funded
I teach in an inner-city school located in New York City that serves a population of students (85-90%) who live in public housing. I am a fourth grade teacher who teaches all academic subjects (math, reading, writing, social studies, and science) along with environmental education.
The obstacle that my students and I are facing now is not having digital cameras to take pictures of the many changes and events that occur with the animals that we have in our classroom. We have 6 birds that live in aviaries that students have helped to build, we have gerbils (sometimes as many as 20), we have a bearded dragon, we raise brown trout from eggs and release them in the spring, and we have two frogs. With the digital camera we could take and print pictures to include in our observation journals that we keep and the nonfiction books that we write.
The animals and programs that my students are involved in provide them with the responsibility of learning to care for animals and learning about the important roles that they (the animals and humans) play in our environment. Students learn about the different ecosystems in the world and through the raising of the trout, students learn and see firsthand the important of keeping our waters clean. They can see how trout have a low tolerance level for populated water, thus students must work weekly to make sure that the water is clean. Students share their knowledge and excitement of learning with parents, teachers, and other students.
In order to extend these activities, I would welcome four digital cameras in my classroom so that students would not continue to use my digital camera which they have done for the last two years.
As one student remarked, "I have never seen so many animals in a classroom. This room looks like a zoo!?!" Share the experience by providing us with digital camera and find out, Is This A Classroom or a Zoo?
