Help me give my students the data collection devices they need to scientifically and accurately gather data that can be presented to formal science educators and scientists in the field.
Urban students often are overlooked and mine are no exception! I want to put the tools in their hands they need to be successful at their jobs, becoming responsible citizens who understand what they need to do to ensure tomorrow has a chance to succeed.
I am often the first introduction to science that they have ever had and while this can be a challenge, it is also exciting to see them discover things for the first time and take ownership in doing science rather than reading it from a very outdated textbook.
They often don't believe that I want to give them opportunities outside the classroom and are truly amazed when they realize there is a huge world out there just waiting to be explored.
My Project
My students were presenting at a science symposium when we were introduced to these small, but effective data devices called pocketlab weather. They were amazing!. It would allow us to gather enough data to fully support or disprove hypotheses and make our research more dynamic and valid.
Students are expected to develop research and place copies of it in an electronic portfolio which can help them achieve entrance into a good high school and college.
Many of them are coming from families who have never graduated from either institution and they are excited about their children achieving what they did not.
Having these data collectors will assist us in making our research improve dramatically and help us to create a more excellent research product.
