Lights, Camera, Action! Take One...My talented, shining fourth grade students would love the opportunity to take information we have learned in the classroom to create commercials, public service announcements, and TV shows among other things.
I have many creative, outgoing students who love to steal the spotlight. I really believe I could turn this energy into something very positive for the classroom community and school. I think I could hook these students just by offering the opportunity for them to be taped. Students would be required to work in cooperative learning groups to get the job done. Each student in the small group would have a role(s). All students will be a part of the planning process.
Offering the option to record a presentation does many things for a student and classroom. First, students must write a script, edit it, and rehearse it before they tape. We will be able to take any subject I teach- math, science, and Social Studies and easily incorporate reading and writing skills into the presentation. Reading the script will also help students with their reading fluency skills. My favorite part of this is that students will be able to show their creative side and personality while working on meaningful projects in the classroom.
Having a camcorder in the classroom also allows students to look back and reflect on their project. They can see their strengths and the areas they need to improve. Students will be able to take the videos home to their parents and family members to show their production and hard work! Hopefully, they will see growth in their work from the beginning to the end of the year!
