There are many different ways to teach students literacy skills. Identifying letters is the most important concept that a child first learns. The ability to do this successfully is a the base to learning how to read. To help students learn this, I introduce the letters all around my classroom in many different ways so that the are constantly seeing and interacting with them.
One of the best ways for young children to learn to identify letters is by touching them.
I realized that they would be so excited to have a pillow to comfort them as they rest on their mats each day. Interacting with a pillow shaped as a letter would be an interesting and effective way to help them memorize letters.
