Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a school in Miami-Dade that took a direct hit by hurricane Irma. We are a STEM-based public school with 94% free or reduced-price lunches. The families we serve really want what is best for their kids and trust me as their teacher to help make those decisions. The students in my classroom are very loving and caring individuals. My students are very talented 25 young individuals who come from a low socioeconomic section in Florida. I have ESE, ESOL and autistic immigrant students. My students face many challenges inside school to succeed and do their best, and they struggle outside of school to not allow the environment that they live in to stop them from achieving their dreams. My students strive to become role models and leaders for their community.
My Project
After Hurricane Irma I want to be able to provide technology and materials for my students so that we can use them during reading and math centers. I don't want Hurricane Irma to affect with my students learning. I want to be able to use STEM concepts to deepen students' understanding of the Arts, Math, Science and Technology all while helping students solve real-world challenges and problems.
We need three iPad minis to extend our learning during science, Math, Science and reading time.
We are an innovative classroom and use new century skill to examine, discuss, and apply knowledge through creating and extending. I want my students to use the iPads in small groups to complete research on topics, and then take their research and create a project that can be presented or taught to the class. My students need to have opportunities to incorporate technology with their daily studies.
This will help prepare them for college and career in a 21st-century life. By using the iPads in small groups, students will have more opportunities to use technology on a daily basis and explore many STEM concepts.
