Reading will only be a shuffle away with our new iPod Shuffles. I teach twenty one second graders. Four of my students are reading significantly below grade level. These students have been placed on a progress monitoring plan, which is designed to help the children meet state expectations for proficiency in the area of reading.
My struggling readers would benefit the most from the use of an iPod Shuffle. This small and compact piece of technology would allow them to listen to audiobooks at anytime, anywhere. The use of these iPod Shuffles will reinforce the different reading strategies I've taught them in class. As a result of listening to audiobooks, students will increase their reading fluency and word accuracy.
I currently have the software to create and download an unlimited amount of audiobooks to an iPod Shuffle. Classmates, teachers, and classroom volunteers will work together in creating audiobooks available for the iPod Shuffles. The four targeted students will be able to listen to an audiobook and follow along with a book in hand.
Your help will ensure student achievement in my classroom. An iPod Shuffle will spark the enthusiasm needed to increase my students' reading levels. This innovative project will enable learning beyond the walls of my classroom. It is simply an effective way to have "reading-on-the-go."
