My Students

"Small minds with big ideas."

I currently teach at an extremely poor Title I school in the city of Chicago where I feel I have learned more from the students than they have from me.

As a first year teacher, I was fortunate enough to receive this job. Although, it has been extremely difficult to educate students without the necessary supplies, yet, our students still come to school eager to learn. Our school rarely has extra funding for enriching materials and if there is, funds are used for the upper grades. Many of my students' families will never have additional money to purchase educational materials. Therefore, I hope to be able to provide a fun and interesting way of learning, so my students can succeed in life, in and out of the classroom.

My Project

I am asking for an iPad to add to a technology center in our classroom. This small interactive device will begin to transform my second grade classroom's learning. I would love to teach my students more through technology to help them become familiar with it now and offer them yet another medium of learning. I plan to use this device during our centers for both literacy and math online programs that my school has subscriptions for like Mathletics, Headsprout, and Reading A-Z. There are so many amazing applications like Xtra Math to build students fluency in addition and subtraction facts that can help me promote and have my students practice their skills. The possibilities are endless! I have a range of visual and kinesthetic learners and this small simple device can help my students become better mathematicians and readers along with lifelong learners.

This project is so important to me and my students who are living in an era where technology is key.

My students work very hard to accomplish their educational goals. Therefore, I need to make sure I can help them be successful. Please support my students by helping this project come alive. I know this could dramatically expand my teaching options and make me a better teacher by creating healthy readers, writers, and mathematicians.
