My Students
To grasp concepts in the Social Studies classroom and provide students with the ability to research at a moments notice, the introduction of these iPads will provide endless answers to our questions.
This year's students are overage and under credited.
They are often 1-2 grade levels behind. In this unique program, they will be "caught" up, but focus on the individual students' needs will be of most importance.
The school will be housed in a new building and new neighborhood. However, students will still travel from across the city to get here. As this school is part of the alternative education sector in our district, it will provide students with blended learning models. By pairing technology with everyday content, I hope my students will gain the ability to question, critically think, and form conclusions about topics in both American and World History.
My Project
I am requesting 2 Apple Air iPads, 2 cases, 2 keyboards, and 2 screen protectors.
The Apple iPads will be used during independent small group activities and paired instructional models. Students will often take the active role of researcher, and answer questions we develop over the course of the week. A researcher will conduct an independent study answering and clearly presenting the information they found from the variety of resources they used to do so.
I too, will use an iPad during instruction to monitor behavior and give recognition (incentive points) to those students working hard on the tasks, participating in discussions, and communicating well with their peers. Students will be able to see there progress while the lesson takes place.
The iPads will also be used for tracking of grades, writing documents, and exploring presentations.
Students will gain opportunities and skills for beyond the classroom.
The goal is to ignite students' interests in learning and want for knowing more about their role in the global society.
Students will begin to question, search, and validate sources. They will be able to justify their statements or defend their positions from documentation. As we debate, inform, and persuade each other about a range of topics we will gather a better sense of what it means to challenge our own knowledge.
