This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Most of my students are Spanish-speaking. A specific challenge is their oral language development. My students deserve to have relevant technology to assist their learning. With the iPod Touch, their oral language skills can improve with the use of apps explicitly aimed at language development.
Our public school is located in Southern California.
We are a Title I school which means that our school has migrant students, students with limited English proficiency, homeless students, students with disabilities, neglected students, delinquent students, at-risk students and many other students in need. Students can be classified as at-risk for numerous reasons. A few reasons they might be classified as at-risk students include: high number of absences, a single-parent home, low academic performance or low-income family.
Despite the many obstacles these students encounter on a day to day basis, these students are managing to stay focused and learn. It is difficult at times to reach those students with more severe issues, but even these students are giving their best effort and are advancing academically. Despite their daily struggles, my kindergarten students always come to school with a smile, enthusiasm, and strong willingness to learn.
My Project
Presently, our school does not have iPad's or iPod's for student use. Most of our students do not have access to the Internet or to touch technology. The iPod Touch will allow the students to experience and explore touch technology. It will give them unique experiences with current technology and can encourage them to be responsible for their own learning. The iPod Touch will provide a hands-on approach that is beneficial to all students' learning needs in this Kindergarten class and future classes.
Technology is constantly being updated and improved to better prepare our students for society. Exposing our students to touch technology such as the iPod Touch is essential in preparing them for the future.
The iPod Touch will allow the students to experience and explore touch technology.
It will give them a unique experiences with current technology and will encourage them to be responsible for their own learning. The iPod player has functionality beyond playing music, and it can be used in many different ways for teaching and learning. Integrating an iPod player into our kindergarten curriculum is a visionary approach to preparing our young learners for the future.
