Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students need an iPod touch to complete the DIBELS Next assessment. This online assessment is best administered on a mobile touch-screen device. Although my school had fundraisers to equip teachers with the necessary technology, the proceeds were not enough to provide each class with a device.
I teach at a Title I school where 40 percent of the students are English learners.
My class consists of 21 wonderful kindergarteners who display a positive attitude and are eager to learn despite facing many challenges. They love books, and they are working very hard learning their letter sounds and practicing their decodables so they can soon read on their own.
My Project
Early elementary teachers in my district administer the DIBELS Next measures to monitor the acquisition of early literacy skills, such as phonemic awareness, decoding, and reading fluency. All students are assessed three times per year to make sure they are making adequate progress. Students who are at risk should be assessed biweekly. Having an iPod touch for my class will facilitate the implementation of progress monitoring for my at-risk students.
When it is not being used for assessments, the iPod touch and the digital audio hub will serve as a listening center for small groups to listen to read-along books.
This device will allow me to conduct regular monitoring of my students’ progress in order to identify and address reading difficulties in a timely manner.
Your generous donation will help me provide my kindergarteners with the different levels of support they require in order to achieve academic success.
