My Students
Can you remember what it was like to want to hear your favorite story over and over again? Did you love music as a child?
I teach 20 first grade students at a high-poverty school in New York City.
Many of my students aren't read to at home but wish they could hear their favorite stories. My students are curious and have a great thirst for knowledge. My students do not have many learning resources at home. I want to provide a rich learning environment for them in my classroom.
My Project
My students need iPods and headphones to start an iPod listening center. I will upload the CD read-alongs to iTunes. Then my students will be able to pick up the iPod and a book, find the book's cover art on the iPod, and listen to the story over and over again. The mix of technology with literature will motivate them to choose and listen to a wide variety of books at the listening center. This will increase their comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary skills. I will also utilize this iPod listening center for students to enjoy music during independent learning time and during morning meeting time.
A donation to this project will allow me to expose my students to a wide variety of literature, make an effective listening center, and improve my students reading skills.
My students and I would be very thankful for any donation to make our iPod listening center a reality in our classroom.
