This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Kids have become accustomed to digital content and are familiar with many different types of audio devices. Much of what we learn, we learn by listening. Audiobooks have traditionally been used with second-language learners, learning-disabled students, and struggling readers or nonreaders. In many cases, audiobooks have proven successful in helping these students to access literature and enjoy books. Studies have also shown that audiobooks help students engage in text and gain exposure to more words, ultimately improving vocabulary, comprehension and critical thinking skills.
To work on reading and comprehension skills I am designing a listening center with books, QR code’s, activities and iPod Touches that will provide my intervention students with books on iPods that will open their imagination to new worlds and help build their lifelong love of reading so they can make strides toward becoming independent learners that can facilitate their own reading experience!
How fun to get a reading bag. Then check-out an iPod Touch and then sit in a quiet spot. Scan the books code and start listening to the story.
