My students need an iPad mini, projector cable, and case. These will enhance their learning experiences by giving them hands-on access to websites, videos, apps, and more.
Steve Jobs said âÂÂEqual opportunity more than anything means a great education.â Providing equal opportunities means leveling the playing ground for my special education and English language learners. We must inspire students with creative learning opportunities that employ technology.
My students are an amazingly diverse group of young adults.
These children, struggling with difficult home lives, language barriers, uneducated parents, and poverty, look to me for guidance for something better, to see the world outside their small microcosms. My students are often judged and labeled as âÂÂsomeone who can't succeedâ in the regular education classrooms. THEY CAN SUCCEED! Each one of these students brings different experiences and knowledge with them that others can learn from.
The special education students in my school come from families that are mostly below the poverty level and receive free/reduced lunch. All of my students have special educational needs and many are English Language Learners (some have been in this country for a month or two) and also have special learning requirements. Many of my students struggle with difficult home lives where there is no support emotionally or academically, making it difficult to complete work at home or stay focused during the school day. School is the place where they find safety and understanding. I want to provide these students with structure, support and compassion so they may thrive to the heights I know they are capable of.
My Project
Tablets are a complete game changer in the classroom. I believe that having tablets will provide deeper learning and understanding. Having the availability of an iPad will allow for flexibility to change the common mode of teaching and learning, while engaging students in the complex curriculum.
With a tablet, students are able to do research without leaving the classroom, teachers can project and manipulate 3-D objects on a screen and a virtual library is available at the swipe of a studentâÂÂs fingertip. An iPad can provide global learning where students can interview a scientist or connect with other students around the world. Students can work collaboratively in the group or across computers.
My students with autism would also use the tablet to better demonstrate their comprehension through writing integration apps. Using the tablets with my English Language learners, I can increase their level of comprehension/learning by using translation apps and visual aids. All of our children are going to be using some sort of tablet/computer in the future; an opportunity to use them in the classroom will better prepare them for technology later in life.
I feel that it is my job and life choice to change each and every student that I have for the better.
A donation of a tablet will allow for my students to have an exciting learning experience within my classroom. Having technology available opens a window into the rest of the world for my students to gain all of the knowledge that would take a lifetime to experience.
I want them to learn all they can and provide them with the tools to guide them to becoming the person they can be for they are our future. My students should have diverse opportunities to learn, communicate and produce knowledge in a variety of ways and therefore would benefit from having a tablet donated to this class.
