My Students

"Technology is the pen and paper of our time" and my kindergarten students are technology natives. This generation is naturally drawn to computers, iPads, and smart phones. My students' engagement is magnified whenever I incorporate technology into my instruction. To be most effective, it is a must!

My 20 amazing kindergarten students are residents of an urban community in Washington, D.C., and despite various conditions in their personal lives, they are eager and super excited about learning daily.

We are a high poverty school with very limited technology resources in the building. Outside of the classroom my students have limited access to technology in their homes. My young learners are naturally inquisitive and drawn to technology. Learning with technology has proven to support their natural love of learning. Students are full of excitement when it is their turn on the one class iPad for 20 students to share. For a workstation during center time, I have one iPad set up with various learning apps. Students are always upset if they were not able to get on within a school day. I have to continually assure students that they will have a turn another day.

My Project

The access to this new technology will foster a positive environment for engaging students and acquiring knowledge across all subjects. The use of 5 additional iPads, protection plans, and 7 cases will increase collaboration between students and creativity while working through different apps. During workstation time for math, reading, and language students will be engaged in different programs to help increase their proficiency levels. This is so critical during this kindergarten year as I am building the foundation for all other grade levels.

iPads will be an effective tool to improve students' scores and increase their motivation to learn.

We can use the iPads to open students' minds to research and explore many topics they may be interested in. We can take virtual tours around the world learning new information. We hope this project will increase the excitement about learning which will translate to increased attendance rate and increased skill performance. I can just picture the level of engagement, and maximized learning time!
