Do you have Diary of a Wimpy Kid? Goosebumps? Percy Jackson? Captain Underpants? How to Draw books? Our kids love to come to the library and they know what books they want!
We are a very small school for students in grades K-12 who have severe emotional and behavioral disorders.
We also serve students with autism. Most have some pretty severe reading deficits as well, but that does not keep them from loving books! They will come and ooh and aah over the great selection of books that we have in our makeshift Library.
My Project
My students need two iPad minis to use in the Library. They will be able to help catalog books and other resources and take Accelerated Reader tests. I love looking after the Library, but it is just one of the wonderful things I get to do as part of my job at this wonderful school. We operate on the honor system when it come to checking books out. I enlist the help of every student who comes in to help us to keep the Library in order. They sign contracts that say they will take care of the Library and the books and most do it the best they can. We do not have scanners to catalogs books or to locate them. With a couple of iPads we could get the some of the great book cataloging apps and start to get things more organized! We don't have a card catalog system so I have organized the books by topic the best that I can. With the iPads we could have a list of all available books and where they are in the stacks! We could also get Accelerated Reader apps! The students just love AR! There are apps that scan books and tell you the Lexile score - what a great help that would be! What fun we will have !
The amount of good that these iPads will do is huge!
The apps that I have mentioned alone will make a huge difference to our students and our Library! We surely do appreciate any donation or help that you would like to offer. Thank you so much!
