My students need 2 iPads in order to increase the ever changing form of literacy. Literacy is now tied to technology and iPads will help connect the two.
Dr. Seuss said it true when he wrote, "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." However, reading has taken on many different forms since Dr. Seuss wrote those words. Technology is now a major part of learning and literacy.
My students range from Kindergarten to 5th grade with a large range in learning abilities and levels.
I am the school librarian, which means I see all the students at our school within the week. Our school is in a small suburban community in Northern California just outside of San Francisco. There are over 800 students from many different cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds. Regardless of where they come from all students are encouraged to become responsible, respectful, safe, and kind individuals in the classroom and in the community.
My Project
Students will use the iPads to read ebooks, individually and in reading clubs. Students will create book reviews and book trailers. Younger students will use the iPads to increase literacy and reading comprehension. Students will become familiar with handheld technology and apps; many students do not have access to tablet technology at home. Students will be able to learn how to use technology to increase their literacy and to enhance their learning.
Technology has become a major aspect of student learning, it has also become an important part of literacy and has changed how many children read books.
Having iPads in the library will allow all students to have access to the changing form of literacy. All students will have the opportunity to use the iPads and they will give them the chance to become more familiar with another form of technology. Students overall literacy levels will increase, along with their knowledge and capabilities in technology.
