My Students
My students are Title I Reading students. They come and see me because they are reading below grade level and many of them are economically disadvantaged. My goal is to have these students reading on grade level by the end of the year.
We are a Title I school, which means at least 30% of our students are economically disadvantaged.
Our school is a K-6 school with about 500 students in a rural community. I feel like I am extremely blessed with the students that I work with because they are so sweet and so eager to learn. They all have unique and wonderful personalities
My Project
With the creation of iPads, we are able to take multiple activities and put them into one resource. Students are able to download ebooks and click on unknown words as they are reading or have a story read to them. We can download apps for students to practice early reading skills such as phonemic awareness and phonics. Instruction becomes more engaging with the ability to mirror the iPad onto our Promethean boards by using apps to teach. There are many assessment tools on the iPad as well which will allow us to monitor our students' progress closer. This benefit will help us know when we need to slow down and remediate or move on and enrich.
An iPad in the classroom will help us to facilitate 21st century learners.
Students will not only enhance their learning by using this technology, but they will also be more akin to using technology which will better prepare them for life after school and be more competitive in the job market.
