iPads Needed to Engage Students with Special Needs
My students need iPad minis with protective cases to engage them in literacy and math. My students have special needs and need to be challenged at their levels.
Most days in our classroom consist of Reading, Writing, and Math workshops where students receive full class instruction then become active participants in choosing appropriate small group, partner, or enrichment activities. I would love to enhance our curriculum with iPads to support all needs.
We want technology in our classroom!
My students are active and eager learners; I want to empower my students with art. I find it important that I empower my students to develop life skills through traditional methods of learning, but also with new technology. Many students in my class have special needs. Some are former ELL students that often struggle with reading, while others are above level and need to be enriched. Our school consists of children from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds speaking many different languages. Our school is working very hard to incorporate technology as much as possible into the curriculum. We have received Smart Boards, Elmo projectors and some laptops for students. Having iPad minis in the classroom will allow me to work with small groups to build fluency, and independence on their individual levels. Others will be able to use the iPad minis to make their own decisions on the type of work they would like to do independently. They will also support students who need translation.
My Project
I want to empower my students with art with the use of iPads. Students will use the iPad minis to practice reading skills on their level. Some students may need to listen to books read to them. Others may need to be challenged. The iPads will also be used to build fluency in math and engage my students with special needs who are struggling. They will be used to supplement our math program with enrichment activities. iPad minis will be used to engage students in research to support their writing. My students receive art 1x per week. Through technology I want my learners to tap into their inner artist and to play and experiment with their creative side as well.
By donating to this project you will be helping my students gain self confidence, independence, and empowering them with art.
They will be more engaged in their learning and less focused on worrying they are struggling or functioning on the same level as their peers. For some students the classroom may be the only place where they have access to technology. They will also learn valuable life lessons such as sharing and time management. Please help support us and get our future into the world of technology.
