My students need 4 iPads, 4 cases, 4 screen protectors, and 4 headphones with microphones. I would like to open a technology workstation and these materials would allow me to have one in my class.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The best and easiest way to describe my students is that they are survivors. My class is a dual language kindergarten classroom, and I am charged with teaching them Spanish, language arts and math. I will have two classes, each consisting of 21 highly motivated and fully charged five-year-olds. My children and their families have been hit hard by Hurricane Harvey. Many of my families had to be evacuated, and our school sustained a lot of damage. We are teaching at a relocation site with the basics. We couldn't ask our parents for any type of supply after what they went through. My kids are ready to be back at their school, but we need some technology to replace what we lost during the hurricane. We hope to be back at our school soon and these items would help my students adjust to yet another move.
My Project
If this project gets funded, a second technology workstation would be opened in my classroom. I used to let my kids work on educational games in the technology workstation but now that is no longer possible. The school wants the students to listen to stories being read aloud to them or work on a required district software. A certain amount of minutes must be completed per week per student. If I get these iPads, I would be able to open up a second workstation and more students would be able to fulfill their requirements and would even allow for free time on the iPads. The cases and screen protectors would not only protect the iPads but would allow the students to move around the room with ease. The headphones with microphones would allow the kids to record themselves reading on the district software and record themselves.
After such a rough beginning of the school year, my kids deserve some free time to "play" on the iPads.
If funded, they would be able to get that free time and fulfill the district requirements all at once.
