iPads in Special Education

My students need iPads for learning to use inside our classroom.

My Students

Students walk into my classroom full of energy and ready to learn. Many of my students have challenges that stand in the way, making learning harder for them. I teach special education students from kindergarten to 5th grade. My school is in an urban area with about 70% receiving free/reduced-price lunch. Since I teach special education, I need hands-on, engaging ways to teach my students the curriculum. My students come into my classroom for help, sometimes feeling hopeful but other times feeling like failures. Each student has different academic needs, as well as different emotional needs.

My Project

My students love learning but often find learning in a typical classroom environment difficult. As a Special Education teacher, I try to include technology resources to enrich lessons. Previously, our classroom had iPads. I used interactive apps for both reading and math to engage the students. I also have the Osmo iPad equipment which all the students love to use and learn from.

My students would benefit from having iPads in our classroom again.

My students use the iPads to listen to audio readings, research unknown words/meaning of words, review math facts, and so much more. Interacting with the iPads makes learning fun!
