My wonderful 2nd grade class is filled with a diverse group of students. My school is a Title 1 school that is located in Brooklyn where most of our students come from a low-income households. 100% of the students receive free lunch. My students are not only diverse in their socio-economic status or cultural background but also in their leaning styles. One third of my class are ENL students. Many of these students are new to our country and need extra support to be able to learn and be successful. Many of my students are visual and kinesthetic learners who learn with hands-on materials such as manipulatives.
My hard-working, prosperous and eager students take on any challenge presented to them.
My students show perseverance in all tasks!
Many of my students live in temporary housing situations which is only one challenge my students face! Despite these hardships and challenges my students show perseverance.
My Project
English Language Learners are growing and are an important focus in my school. With the addition of iPads to our classroom, my students will be able to use technology in an all new way. An iPad opens up doors for the diverse visual and kinesthetic learners in my classroom. The iPad will become a tool to help create authentic learning especially with my ENL students. iPads are the ideal device to help support these learners. Many of my students are coming from their home country to an English-speaking classroom. An iPad can personalize learning and strengthen language skills to ensure success. Some of the tools that we use in our classroom include Raz-kids reading program. This program will be made available on the iPad to differentiate learning for students who do not speak English. In addition, the iPad has built in features that can be used to support English language learners. Some examples of these features are spoken text, dictation, Safari reader and communications tools.
The wide variety of learning materials and apps available on the iPads will keep my students engaged and excited about learning.
