My Project

This grant will help support iPads for our robotics program. We use robotics, Ozbots and Spheros, in our makerspace and in classroom instruction. For example, our deaf and hard of hearing teacher recently presented on how she incorporates coding into instruction at the Illinois Teachers for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Conference.

However, we only have four iPads in the entire school and we share them back and forth between the makerspace and classrooms.

This grant will allow us to double the number of shared Pads we use. IPADS can be used to remotely control and monitor robots during testing and competitions. Students can use the iPad to view live camera feeds, collect data from sensors, and make real-time adjustments to the robot's behavior. iPads in the makerspace can also be used to provide access to a wide range of multimedia resources such as instructional videos, tutorials, and educational apps related to STEM subjects, including green screen technology. This encourages creativity and allows students to express themselves in unique and imaginative ways.

Integrating iPads into a high school robotics program can enhance student engagement, facilitate hands-on learning, and provide valuable tools for programming, design, collaboration, and data analysis. Coding requires students to break down complex problems into smaller, manageable parts and devise logical solutions. This fosters critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and problem-solving skills that are valuable across disciplines and in everyday life. It also provides students with essential digital literacy skills. The students learn how computers work, understand basic programming concepts, and gain proficiency in using technology tools and resources effectively.

Coding skills are also in high demand across various industries, including technology, engineering, healthcare, finance, and entertainment. By learning to code in high school, students are better prepared for future career opportunities and have a competitive advantage in the job market.
