My classroom is a place full of creativity and wonder. When you step foot in the door, you see a group of students who are eager to learn and are excited to share their new found knowledge. Project-based learning allows for their creativity to shine and for students to collaborate with one another.
Every day, my students inspire me.
Nothing is better than seeing the looks on their faces when they achieve something for the first time. Whether they are building a bridge to hold the weight of the Three Billy Goats Gruff or writing a full page in their family journals, new feats are accomplished each day. My hope is that the iPads will give my students another tool that will help them reach their goals.
My Project
My students need 3 iPad minis with protective cases to support their learning in literacy, math and engineering.
A major component of STEAM is technology.
Since I am working at a new STEAM school, we are slowly building up our technological resources. Many of my students do not have access to educational technology in their homes and would greatly benefit from technology in my classroom.
I envision the students in my classroom will be using iPad technology to both support and enrich their literacy and math skills. These iPads would allow my students to access learning in a variety of different ways.
In literacy, students will work independently on reading apps to reinforce instruction, listen to books to increase comprehension and fluency, and work with voice to text to overcome writing difficulties. In math, students will work independently and in groups on various common core aligned apps. Students will practice addition, subtraction, time, money, and measurement.
When a child masters the art of reading, they will have the power to excel in all areas of our exciting STEAM curriculum! My students like to move around, engage in hands on learning, collaborate with classmates, and follow reading routines in the classroom. With iPad technology, students will be given the opportunity to enhance these exciting areas of learning.
Although my goal is to build literacy and math skills with these iPads, I know that they will supplement different areas of learning and enrich our cross curricular STEAM lessons.
