iPads for Robots

My students need two ipads with wifi so we can interface our LEGO mindstorm robotics kits with them to have engineering projects in the classroom.

My Students

We are a First Grade class in a GATE- Academy for Advanced Learners program. My students are science and technology driven and have a love for solving problems and creating amazing things. We can't wait to become expert engineers by the end of the year! Thank you for supporting our learning!

Mrs. Foster's First Graders are in a talented and gifted program that nurtures advanced learners in a challenging and rigorous setting.

We focus on communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity! Since our small town is home to one of the most influential tech companies, Intel, we have a lot of STEM-passionate families and children at our school. We are so lucky to have the future generation of scientists, astronauts, engineers and more.

My Project

In our classroom, we use the LEGO mindstorm Robotic kits to build robots, machines and motorized contraptions. We'd love to be even more inventive by having ipads to connect the robotics kits as the remote control. This will help us with programming and control of the LEGOS. We can also use the ipads to connect to educational apps and have access to Google for research, as well as interact with our favorites like Time for Kids online and Zoobooks digital. My students will learn and practice the basics of robotics, engineering and of course fluency in tablet technology.

I believe this project will enhance the 21st century learning skills for my students: their critical thinking skills as well as collaboration, communication and creativity with technology.

As young ones they will be privileged to have the basics of robotics and engineering so they can build on this experience in later grades and eventually be innovators in their adult lives. Currently we have no access to tablets of any form in our grade level and this will be a valuable tool for them!
