My Students
I teach Physical Education for 6-8th grade students. They crave movement and athletics and are smart beyond words! My students favorite question to ask is "why." Being inquisitive and wanting to discover the importance of physical activity, technology in PE would be that moment for them to see the "why." They love challenges and competing with each other. I am the only PE teacher in our middle school building and building relationships with my students has been my biggest priority. Through this they have learned to trust and know that I will always do as much as I can for them!
As we build the physical education program, my hope is to give my students the best possible ability to become lifelong learners in living a healthy lifestyle.
We do not have an outdoor space for the scholars and a run down gym that we make work, therefore, creating the best Physical Education program indoors that I can is imperative to their learning.
My Project
Each student having a Apple 10.2-inch iPad will be a changing point for PE! Many times, the students have a difficult time understanding that a skill they are performing may feel correct to them but they can’t throw far enough and it is in fact a step they are missing. The iPads will allow them to record and analyze each other for constructive feedback to help each student improve and develop self awareness. A prime example of this is utilizing the coach in our tactical games model in recording a scrimmage or small game of a teammate who is having trouble creating space and openings SHAPE S1.M6.7. The coach can record, edit and show their teammate that they may be missing jabs and fakes against the defense to create the openings. A student being told they are doing something wrong and then discovering through an iPad that is not going to lie to them can make a difference as well as build trust among their peers in our Title I school.
iPads are going to expand the learning of students to increase cooperation, communication, learning new apps, skill building and tactile learning.
Utilizing QR Codes throughout the gym will also allow students to choose activities they are interested in and discover them with the QR code. Creating a sense of curiosity for warm-ups for a twist on class that day or through teaching them lifelong activities they can do in the real world such as Geocaching. My students will be able to create, edit and view videos, record fitness tracking, choose their own fitness warm-ups, create their own fitness programs, discover PE and sports history and so much more!
iPads are going to expand the learning of students to increase cooperation, communication, learning new apps, skill building and tactile learning.
