We engage in lively classroom discussions and teach each other during instruction time. When it comes down to using technology a lot of time is lost waiting for old computers to turn on and load. We need the materials to help them practice their math and reading fluency.
I work in a diverse community were many languages are spoken and students are eager to learn and participate.
Our school serves about 700 students and it is 70% free and reduced priced lunch. Our families work closely with us to ensure that their children are successful. Our district's computers and laptops are limited and they take a long time to start up. At the same time we have software that is critical to improve the math and reading abilities of our students. With a population that does not have easy access to computers or Internet at home, school is where children can access internet and get their technology education.
My Project
This grant will enhance teaching by providing a reliable technology which is necessary for students to continue to practice the skills they learn in class independently. By having reliable technology our students will be able to conveniently access software they need to grow in reading, math to be well-rounded learners. This also allows us to pull small groups in order to differentiate students' learning while others are practicing specific skills independently.
We will be using ipad airs to log on to Lexia, ST Math, and MyON. They would also be used for research in social studies, science and math.
This project would be used to provide differentiation and additional support for all of our students.
By having these iPads available students will be able to improve their reading skills. They will have access to targeted lessons that respond to their reading abilities and areas of growth. In math, they will have additional opportunities to practice and master mathematical concepts that are aligned with CCSS. It would have the greatest impact with our ELL students.
