My Students
I teach special education at a high poverty school. I work to build social skills, coping skills, and problem-solving strategies. One of my biggest challenges is engaging students who struggle in the areas of academics and behavior. Many of my students do not have access to technology at home.
Many of my students have needs in the area of academics, emotional/behavior regulation, autism, and social skills.
My students are wonderful to work with, but need additional support to be successful in their school day. I work with students from kindergarten through fifth grade. Some students I see a lot throughout the day and others have learned enough skills to be successful in their classrooms with little to no support.
My Project
I am working on incorporating more technology into my classroom to help engage students with learning and social skills. I would like to be able to access different apps and make interactive learning games that go along with curriculum and learning objectives. Giving my students more opportunities to use a variety of websites and apps will give them a chance to explore new ways of learning and help promote more of an interest in their academics.
Some of my students also need time to decompress or need reinforcement throughout their day. For many of my students, technology is a huge reinforcement and the iPads would help motivate them to engage in their learning throughout the day.
Many of my students don't have access to iPads or other forms of technology at home.
By exposing them to a variety of new academic opportunities, it will help promote their learning and love for school. It will provide a great, interactive way to enhance and differentiate learning to meet the individual needs of my students.
