The United States has seen a downward spiral of graduates qualified in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Students need to engage in exciting, hands-on, technology-supported activities in order to spark an intrinsic desire to further their education in a stem-related area.
My students are eager learners with few resources at home to support a 21st century education.
I try to provide every opportunity possible to expose my students to real-world activities and experiences. My school is located in an urban area, surrounded by blight. Some students are bused from adjacent neighborhoods, some walk far distances, and a few live close to the school. All of my students receive free breakfast and free lunch.
My Project
The iPads will allow my students a technology source for their math and science classes. These resources would allow me to plan activities that will lead to real-world connections through the content for math and science. These connections would be powerful and would then hopefully lead to students being interested in technology-related fields of study. The iPads will allow me to connect new content with real-life examples for the students. They will also allow students to conduct research and create their own projects.
My students need to find something that sparks their interest and builds a desire from within to succeed at something in life.
I truly believe that the iPads will open up a new avenue of learning, by which I can plan many high-interest learning activities for them.
