My students need 3 iPad minis and 3 protective cases to promote independent learning and support for literacy, math and science common Core learning targets.
My job as a teacher is to give my students the tools they need to make progress on their educational goals. Every day I do my best to make sure that my students have the necessary tools they need to succeed, but it's not easy when you have a small yearly classroom budget in a high poverty school.
My students are in a self-contained middle school special education classroom for students with a variety of disabilities that make it difficult for them to access their grade level academics.
Each child has an individual education plan to help them make progress on goals in academics, social skills, communication and functional life skills. About 1/3 of my students speak English as a second language and every student works significantly below their grade level in all academic areas. My students are very hard workers and try their best to grow and learn in every subject. They are full of boundless energy, curiosity and incredible potential.
My Project
I am requesting 3 iPad minis and 3 protective cases to promote independent learning and support for literacy, math and science common core learning targets.
The iPads I am requesting would be put to use on a daily basis and would be incorporated into a variety of activities and subjects including math, reading, writing, science, history and geography. My students will be using the iPads to learn to read, write, and use supplemental apps that support our reading, math, writing, science and social studies curriculum. In addition to the academic content being learned, the students will be working on learning appropriate social skills through sharing and working as partners with their classmates. I truly believe my students would learn so much from them and it will encourage them to use technology as an educational tool outside of school. They would allow students to work independently while I simultaneously worked with small groups. As a special educator, it is my job to discover the learning abilities of my students and provide them with a variety of learning strategies to help them develop the skills they need to succeed.
Every child learns differently and I would love to be able to provide my students with a device that is intriguing for them to learn on.
This project is important because not only will it provide technology to the classroom, it will provide my students with a hands-on way to work on learning independence skills, as well as academic content, all of which will help them become even more successful learners and students.
