iPads for iMprovement Part 1: For Students with Autism
My students need an iPad and case so that data can be taken on their learning and progress.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Marber's classroom raised $567
This project is fully funded
My Students
Our class is comprised of eight amazing students with autism across three grade levels who learn in many different ways. Our students come from different wards from within DC, not just from the surrounding neighborhood. Our class is a self-contained classroom, which means that the majority of each students' learning takes place within our room. Many of our students also receive some instruction in the general education setting and are able to interact and socialize with their typically developing peers throughout the day.
Autism is a developmental disability that affects the way our students interact and communicate with others.
Autism is a spectrum disorder and our students' skills and abilities fall all over the range of the spectrum. We have students who are approaching grade level academically as well as students who are not yet communicating verbally. Each of our students is unique and has their own strengths, gifts, and support needs. All of our students need support in the areas of communication, behavior, social interaction, and daily living skills.
My Project
Our class is requesting three iPads across three DonorsChoose projects, this being the first part.
In our classroom of students with autism, we are constantly taking data to ensure that what we are teaching is actually making an impact on our students learning and behavior.
These iPads will be used by our classroom team to collect both academic and behavior data for all of our students so that we can create measurable change in our students learning and their lives. Data collection will be mainstreamed across classroom staff and will already be uploaded to a computer making it more easily graphed and increasing efficiency. In addition, the use of iPads to collect data is more environmentally friendly and we will no longer need to purchase and used as much paper.
When not in use for data collection, the iPads can be used to supplement instruction in the classroom on educational apps. They may also be used as reinforcers for completed work and academic tasks in our room. On behalf of myself, my students, and my classroom team, we hope you will help us create a better classroom by getting this project funded!
