My students need the three iPad minis to help with verbal interactions and with other day to day activities. The cases will help avoid breakage from accidents that may occur.
A typical day in my classroom involves using a lot of picture visuals to help with communication. We either use charts or boards to help the student tell us what they want or need at any given time.
Most of my students are non-verbal, and the others are very limited in their verbal skills.
The school is in a very low-income area of the city, and technology is not usually in place at home. With the school districts tight budget, we do not have iPads in our school at all. The iPads would be a huge help in increasing verbal skills along with the use of PECS and other methods.
My Project
The three iPads with protective cases will be used in centers as well as in learning settings in which the student is asked to verbally answer questions. There are many apps that you can get to help the student with verbal skills. The iPad can also be used to track progress on learning sites that can be used for progress monitoring.
This will make a huge difference in my class.
Last year, I was able to get one child to improve his verbal skills; if I have iPads, maybe I can get three this year or even more to start using words. I need tools to help these wonderful children grow to their top potential.
