This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A typical day is spent going from classroom to classroom servicing about 40 English language learners who are also struggling readers.

I teach reading intervention to the most amazing and imaginative boys and girls and they just love to learn.

Most of my students come from homes where Spanish is typically the only language spoken. Most of the students in the school receive free or reduced lunch and rarely do they have books at home, let alone technology to access books online. Our school is the largest elementary school in our district. Even though it's large, the school feels like a family. Our teachers and staff come together to provide amazing experiences to the students in our care.

My Project

I am requesting two iPads with cases for my classes. These tablets will be used on a daily basis to help my students reinforce skills they need to be successful in their academic career. The tablets will be used in different ways for different students. Some students will use them to read at their independent levels, other will use them for listening to reading (improve fluency), reading comprehension questions, or sight word practice. Since my students are struggling readers, who are also English language learners, I want to use them to also support my students' vocabulary development. I want to share educational videos, play slide shows to show colorful examples of concepts and terms we are learning, and I want students to be excited to use technology as a daily part of their instruction.

I truly envision these tablets making a difference within my class groups.

I imagine that they will motivate the students to learn to love reading as much as I do! Students who are not likely to pick up a book will not want to put them down when reading them on these devices. I believe that the iPad tablets with raise the bar and my students will work harder in all areas just to have the opportunity to use the tablets. Your donations will greatly appreciated!
