Our district spans over 600,000 acres, and covers more than nine small communities. The majority of our families are low income, but our families still seek the best education for their children. Our district does not have the funds many of the other districts have because we are a tourist and farming community. Tourism has been reduced drastically because of COVID-19 and in-turn negatively affecting our schools financial ability to support additional materials. This past year, our Title 1 school, has done our best to make do with 11 year old technology, but now I have time to advocate for my students and their futures.
My third grade students will be so excited to have new technology to support their academic growth, while making adjustments to the new school year.
I am excited to share with the them the support they have gotten from all of you. This will allow students to access academic experiences that our previous technology has not been able to open. From virtual field trips, audio books, online math and literacy materials/games, virtual meeting groups, and STEM projects this technology will be a breathe of fresh air to students of all ability levels.
My Project
Imagine being a guardian to a child and not signing up to home-school, yet not given an alternate choice. You are wanting nothing but the best for your kids... and around every corner this technology freezes, stalls, resets, crashes, and makes you feel inept as a guardian, a teacher, a child.
These iPads hold an opportunity for all stakeholders to be successful as a learner whether attending school in the classroom or from a distance.
With learning as a focus, keeping students engaged during these times is so important. Playing games is a great way to engage student learning as well as accessing curriculum and support materials.
