My students are wonderful kindergartners who are excited to go to school everyday. For some, school is the safest place they will be all day. Most of my students come from a less fortunate background and have little to no technology at home. Many students have never even used a computer before.
I teach Kindergarten at a low socio-economic school.
My students are wonderful, but need that extra help to learn the basics of reading. I teach the emerging readers and Kindergarten special education students. After Christmas, the special needs Pre-K will join us in our reading centers. This is to help prepare them for Kindergarten.
My Project
I am requesting an iPad. I believe this technology will open doors for my students. There are so many apps for the iPad that they will be exposed to many lessons. I know an iPad might sound a little crazy but it isn't! An iPad is perfect for little hands and minds. There are over 300,000 applications for the iPad which means an iPad in my classroom will literally open up the world to my students. Want to teach a student about grammar? There's an app for that. Want to teach a student about tempo and rhythm? There's an app for that too. Want to provide children's ebooks? Well, there's an app for that too. The possibilities are endless. And the iPad is so light and the buttons are so big, little hands will have no problem using it.
There is no limit to the possibilities an iPad would give to our room.
My students are growing up in a media driven world and often are not provided with opportunities to keep up with it. If we give them access to new technology, they come up with ways to use it they I may have never thought of.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
