My Students

Motivation is the key ingredient to a successful education!

My students are in a High School Life Skills program located in a Title I school in Massachusetts.

Many of the students in my room lack the ability to read on grade level, which causes much frustration for them. They are all working on social skills, leisure skills, goal setting, vocational training, career planning, personal hygiene, functional math skills, and reading. However, they lack the motivation to learn, because our classroom lacks the technology needed to accommodate them. I am hoping to change that! Adding technology in our classroom will open up many doors for these students and will give them a chance to succeed in today's technologically advanced society.

My Project

My goal is to introduce one iPad to our classroom and build from there. Students will use the iPad to access books electronically, take notes during class, practice handwriting, math skills, and social skills. Some of the important apps that will be used are: Model Me Going Places, Everyday Social Skills, QuickCues, Verbally, and Speakall . There are many free apps available for special education, once an iPad is in our classroom. In addition, students could use the iPad as a reinforcement option to explore games, electronic books, and explore the Internet. This will help with both behavior interventions and to teach leisure skills.

Introducing an iPad to my students will motivate them to learn!

They will have something to look forward to, instead of giving up before a lesson even starts. As a teacher, I will have multiple ways and options to teach new material, so ALL students can learn. Our students will learn because the material will be both rigorous and relevant!
