My Students

As Bill Gates has said, "We're changing the world with technology." I believe that's true in education as well. I want to be able to provide the most meaningful experience I can for each child in my classroom, and I believe that is with the use of iPads in the classroom.

I teach first grade to twenty energetic and loving boys and girls in a school that is only seven years old.

My class has a mixture of students; some who are very tech savvy and some who only get to use technology while at school. The students in my class love to read and explore. Our day is full of meaningful learning and activities that are hands-on and engage the students. Some of our favorite activities are Daily 5 and Guided Math. My students have a love for learning new things and use Daily 5 and Guided Math time as a way to listen to books, explore words and phonics, and practice their addition and subtraction facts. Listening to books is done through a CD/tape player, white boards and magnets are used for word work, and flash cards help the students practice their math facts. Though my students love to be in charge of their own learning, it is difficult to organize and keep the students engaged for an extended amount of time with the materials we currently have.

My Project

Having iPads in the classroom will allow for more individualized learning and instruction. My students will be able to use the iPads for group work, individual assignments, and partner work which will be especially helpful during our Daily 5 and Guided Math times. Some of the assignments I would like to use the iPads for are typing writing assignments as a Word document, use Schoology to complete assignments and assessments, work on Dreambox to work on Math concepts, use Educreations for individualized instruction as well as small group instruction, create and use QR codes, and be able to use Kahoot as a way for the whole class to review. Receiving iPads would enable each student to enhance their learning and reach goals they never have before in reading and math.

Having iPads in the classroom will improve my students' lives by allowing them to feel successful and reach new goals.

I believe my students will be able to complete research, practice their problem solving skills, improve their listening skills, enhance their creativity, as well as improve their overall daily focus through the use of iPads. This is an amazing way to impact every child every day! Will you help me provide technology to students who love to learn and crave to use iPads more?
