Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The teaching method of "Sage on the stage" is where the teacher stands up and tells the students all the knowledge. I teach middle school math and want to give my students the opportunity to be the sage. With an iPad the students can easily make math videos that will demonstrate what they know.

All of my students receive free and reduced lunches.

Over 90% of my students are an ethnic minority. Over 80% of my students are classified as English Language learners. 100% of my students deserve the right to the best education possible. Our students continue to prove that hard work can overcome a list of challenges that they face. Our school was named the "Most Improved Middle School in the County" for 2010. Our students aim to continue to improve through innovative ways of learning.

My Project

An iPad isn't going to be a flashy thing that the teacher uses and no one else can touch. Rather, this iPad will allow students to use a powerful and easy app called Educreations. I have used another teacher's iPad to create videos through Educreations. My students accessed these videos and it allowed me to differentiate on the pace of learning. While a student was learning about exponents, another student who has mastered exponents, had moved on to learn about Math properties. Now, it's time for our classroom to get their own iPad and create videos. I've been the one creating the video lessons, but I am aiming for my students to create their own. The iPad makes it easy for students to simply speak, write and post their video in minutes! These videos will be available for all of my students to access anytime they need extra help.

An iPad will allow us to use the Educreations application, as well as many more.

Edmodo is an educational Facebook that offers many social learning techniques. Doceri is an app that allows students to write on the iPad and have it projected on the whiteboard. Classdojo is a classroom management tool that helps keep kids accountable. There are many educational apps that our class can benefit from through using an iPad. We appreciate your consideration in donating to our Math class.
