Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are imaginative and driven young artists from a range of cultural, linguistic, and learning backgrounds. In our visual arts classroom, they are constantly exploring ways to communicate their identities, experiences, and ideas through the power of art. Many of them are multilingual learners or students with IEPs who benefit from diverse ways to process and express information.
They thrive when given the tools to create, reflect, and share their work in ways that feel meaningful to them.
By integrating digital tools into our practice, we make the art room more inclusive, engaging, and aligned with the creative industries they’ll one day enter.
This project will provide an 11-inch Apple iPad (A16 chip, 128GB, Pink), an Apple Pencil Pro, and a Logitech Rugged Folio Keyboard Case. These tools will be used for digital drawing and painting, creating visual journals and artist statements, researching and writing for CRSE-focused art history units, organizing and sharing digital art portfolios, and exploring animation, storytelling, and video reflections.
Students will use the Apple Pencil for precise drawing and sketching, and the keyboard case will help them type written reflections and critiques with ease. The iPad will serve as a mobile art studio—used for everything from thumbnail sketches to full-blown multimedia presentations.
This project directly supports the NYC Visual Arts Blueprint and NYS Visual Arts Standards. It advances Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education (CRSE) by giving students tools to tell their personal stories through contemporary media. It also reflects Universal Design for Learning (UDL) by offering multimodal access—drawing, typing, video, and audio—to meet the diverse needs of all learners.
This one-device setup—portable, protective, and powerful—will be used daily by rotating student groups for process documentation, brainstorming, and final art production. It will empower students to become creators, editors, critics, and curators of their own work.
