iPad Technology For Students With Disabilities

My students need two iPads to improve their technology, literacy and math skills.

My Students

Some of my students are non-verbal, emerging readers. They are a diverse group with highly individual needs. The one thread that connects their abilities and interests is technology. They all respond very well to all types of technology.

They are very excited learners and are eager.

They are a lovable bunch of students. Some students have basic reading skills but most are emerging/beginning readers. Also, many students are challenged by verbal communication. I have worked with many of these students for a year and have found that using technology and art enables them to find alternative ways of communication. Having these iPads in the classroom, will allow for individualized instruction to meet all of the needs of these students. It will help with differentiation.

My Project

The iPad offers text to speech technology. Students can view books while the iPad reads to them. The accessibility features that the iPad offers, will meet the various needs of this group. Some of the students have iPads as communication devices already, but others can use use these iPads to facilitate their learning.

There are also many apps that can make learning fun and more engaging.

It can meet the needs of students with varied learning styles such as visual and tactile. The donations will improve my classroom by giving the students a new tool for communication, improved literacy and technology skills. It will also allow me to use apps that align with the specialized curriculum for students with disabilities.
