Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are from Newark, NJ, an urban district that believes all children can learn. My students would much rather be in school, but are making the best of the situation at home. Lessons from various platforms such as Flocabulary, NewsELA & Edpuzzles are being assigned but I need to conference with them to answer questions and to do lessons.
Their school classrooms have been replaced with their house, their notebooks replaced with Google docs and their communication replaced with texts; they need virtual classroom sessions to fully grasp the science lessons.
This year we are not only learning from one another, but supporting each other more than ever
My Project
Science is a subject that is taught best through example. Without being in the classroom with my students, it is extremely difficult for them to understand the lessons. Chatting back and forth doesn't allow me to connect with the class and get into the depth of the lesson; which leaves students very confused.
I need an iPad to connect with my students by setting up a virtual classroom, creating assignments and having remote instruction via Webex meetings.
Google Classroom is a platform I use to get the lessons out to my students and with an iPad Pro, I will connect with students and foster conceptual learning. Here I can conduct live lessons, have peer to peer conversations and ask questions. Since schools are closed, virtual classes are the only way to facilitate student learning.
