This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My wonderful students are very eager and ready to learn every day. They are passionate about subjects that intrigue them and are always asking questions to answer their curiosity. Being in school allows them to be expressive and to learn from their peers. They love interacting with one another as well as use digital media to make learning fun.
My sixth graders are very motivated through their peers to help each other succeed, because they feel that when they can help their classmate achieve, we all achieve as a class.
My Project
My students love engaging in hands-on projects, which is great because research shows that the more they do hands on activities, the more they learn. As a teacher, I want to teach them the procedural approach for every math lessons, while exposing them to both the conceptual and application components. By combining and integrating all three of the components, it can allow me to challenge my students to answer the "how" and "why" questions. I intend to engage my students to gradually strive towards expertise and make the connections throughout the math units. In order to enhance their understanding, the students will need to work cooperatively with their peers to create chapter math projects and will be given the opportunity to share their projects through presentations. The real world application projects allows them to see the variety of ways we use mathematics in real life as well as answer how mathematicians create rules and formulas for math.
After the students take in and internalize the what they learned, they have the opportunity to demonstrate and communicate all the complex information in a more simplify and interesting way to their peers.
The iPad serves to help aid and enhance their presentation boards and focus more on the content, while also having the chance to explore their creative side.
From the class presentations, my students are adding certain things to our class knowledge bank that grows and becomes more prevalent and more influential. We need your help in cultivating the 3 math components needed to help set my students up for success.
