Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This year is our second year at FMS. We have lots of buddies that come to visit us, to help us with our social skills. We are also continually working on life skills, safety skills, reading, and finding different tasks to learn what we love. By the end of 8th grade, I would like my 6th graders to find their passion.
All of them either have Intellectual Disabilities, Autism, Down syndrome, and multiple other disabilities.
They come from a low-socioeconomic background and many of them have little to no technology at home. We are an inner-city school with an amazing faculty and fantastic students. We do the best with what we have and work really hard to accomplish big goals.
My Project
Our idea of learning is embracing the 21st century. My students are all visual learners and can not just be handed a paper to complete an assignment. What they need to be successful is to be able to visually explore the content as a group. We currently project all of our classroom material on our projector. However, the tablet that is being used is insufficient and barely works. I was able to get a classroom set of iPads and everyone has their brand new books on them. However, I need to be able to project it for them to follow.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
