My Students
I am a teacher in a full immersion program with 26 English speaking kindergarten students full of life, curiosity, and joy for learning. French is the medium through which they are learning language arts, math, science, social studies, and health. No English is ever spoken by the teacher.
Imagine my students' little faces and eyes full of surprise when they meet me for the first time in September, looking at each other and wondering “what is she saying?” The benefits of learning a language at a young age are that by the time, my students leave elementary school, they speak French and English fluently in both an academic (and social )settings and beyond.
My Project
The purpose of my project is to establish a center with 2 iPads for my students. In that center, my students will engage in a series of listening comprehension activities that are engaging in order to enhance, reinforce and practice in the target language, French. The use of iPads will give them the opportunity to be exposed to a variety of French cultures, accents, and practices. This will also ensure equal access to technology in order to prepare my students for working and living in our increasingly digital age and global citizenship.
Finally, the activities that my students will access through these iPads will be aligned with the standards of ACTFL
( American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) known as the 5 Cs:
Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, Communities of which our daily teaching practices are aligned.
