Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are great. They love learning, and they enjoy coming to school. My students are mostly immigrants or children of immigrants. Many are English Language Learners (ELLs). Nearly all students at my school receive free or reduced-price lunch because their family's household incomes are below the poverty line.
My school is a large, crowded school, in a very large urban district.
This past year, we have had a lot of budget cuts. Fourteen staff members from our school were cut. Most of our budget has been used to keep the teachers and staff that we do have. Even though the school has limited resources, students have some of the highest test scores in the area.
My Project
My students need an iPad to expand learning opportunities in the classroom. In French classes, students will use the iPad for research projects, interactive writing activities, and fun language games. An iPad will help increase student engagement and expand learning opportunities for all students.
Struggling readers also need an iPad to help them catch up with peers.
In addition to teaching French, I work with struggling third grade readers who would benefit from technology to help them catch up with peers. Technology allows me to double my impact with struggling learners because I am able to create personalized assignments for each student on the iPad. Help me help my students succeed!
