My Students

I am an AIS teacher located in New York City. I teach eager kindergarten, first, second, and third-grade children who are struggling readers and writers. My students are devoted to learning but need a different approach toward their education. They need small group instruction that uses many types of manipulatives.

When my children are successful, the look of wonder in their eyes is a sight to behold.

It is truly what makes being a teacher the best job in the world.

My Project

My students are inquisitive and very detail oriented. We really want to know the facts. A concern that has been discussed in the news and my classroom is global warming. My students want to know what exactly is going on weather-wise in this world of ours. The goal is to research weather changes around the world. But that is almost impossible in a classroom with only one computer that is attached to our smart board. We could really use iPads in order to help our research.

Our project doesn't stop with identifying weather changes that are occurring around the world.

We want to also develop some possible solutions to any problems that we discover. Imagine a child who is intensely discussing the ozone layer of our Earth and how we need to preserve it. That would be truly amazing! We really need computers to help our project.

We have studied ecology and my class is very well-versed on reduce, reuse and recycle. However, what is the point if our world is being destroyed by climate change?
