My Students
Many of my Emotional Support students are significantly behind their peers in both Reading and Math. They are very bright children who have missed out on learning because of their emotional needs. I want my instruction and environment to give them what they've missed.
My Emotional Support students are 4th-6th graders.
They are low income, inner city students. Many live with a single parent, in foster homes or in temporary shelters. The class size is large and the needs of the children are many. About 70% of students are currently reading below grade level. We try to build up our students' background knowledge with computer based programs to meet their needs.
My Project
With these iPad minis, my students would be able to access our computer based reading and math intervention programs, our educational songs and videos and our interactive reading and math core programs. These programs can ensure that even when they are not working directly with the teacher, their educational needs are being met. The programs are tailored to students' individual needs and can build skills in exactly the right areas. Working independently on the iPad also provides opportunities for success, which builds their self-esteem.
If my children are able to get the supports they need, through the use of these iPads and these programs, I can get them to read and do math on level.
It is so critical for them to learn to read and experience the pride of academic success. With a strong education, my students can flourish and develop into lifelong learners.
