My students need iPad Minis to take virtual field trips to places they can only imagine.

My Students
Field trips! Field trips! We want more field trips! Those, however, are often put on the back burner. I work in a Title I school where the students rarely get out of the city that they live in. If they were granted access to iPad Minis they would be able to visit museums around the world.
My students are inner city students.
They come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and are often thought down upon outside of their neighborhoods. The students mean well but are not allotted the cultural experiences that they need to make them more marketable to the outside world. These students thirst for knowledge and would severely benefit from the ability to visit a museum like the Louvre in France to see the Mona Lisa, or the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam and experience his art. I also think that my students would benefit from tours of Lincoln's home, Washington's home, and other historical sites. Field trips take students out of the classroom, but virtual field trips allow students to take in the experience and find a way to relive it without traveling.
My Project
The students will be able to utilize these iPad Minis in small groups. The classroom will be organized in stations. The stations will take 20 minutes per station with the ability to visit the iPad station twice. While at that station, they will get to experience historical sites, Skype with museum curators or watch videos that explain the given topic. The ability to learn can spread from my normal history lesson to English and math remediation. The iPads will also have Hooked on Phonics loaded on to them so that the students will have the opportunity to boost their reading skills and comprehension. This will ultimately result in a more well rounded student.
My students will be able to take advantage of opportunities that many take for granted.
Many of my students have never left Richmond, VA. I would love to give them the opportunity to tour the White House, see the Statue of Liberty and visit museums that are above and beyond what they could ever imagine. I want my students to become well rounded individuals who are wanting to learn. I want to inspire the students to show up to class for the opportunity to go on a virtual field trip.
