My students need IPad minis, storybook DVDs, educational software, and magnetic card holders to improve technology, organization, and literacy in their classroom.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
For many of my students it is their first time in school. They are eager and fascinated by everything, especially technology! My students need to harness that feeling with a classroom full of the latest and greatest technology around.
I have 22 eager prekindergarten students in my class.
I have one three year old and 21 four year olds. My elementary school houses more then 700 students from grades prekindergarten to 5th grade. We have 97% on free and reduced lunch and are sandwiched between apartment complexes. That makes our motility rate really high. We often have families that come and go during the school year. For most of my students technology is their mom's phone or a tablet their sibling has and they never get to touch. Many of my students have never held a pencil much less a tablet. I want my students to leave my classroom knowing how to work desktops, tablets, and netbooks.
My Project
My students have access to two desktops, and three tablets that were donated last year. They LOVE the IPad minis the most. My students have the flexibility to move around the room to learn. If we receive more IPads, then more students will have access to educational games. The number of students working on tablets will double.
The story DVDs will allow stories to come alive. My students will be able to see the stories and characters alive on the big screen and will be learning more English as an added bonus. The educational software I want will teach students the early computer skills they will need to function in a technology driven society.
The toner that I asked for will allow the students to print out their pictures, certificates, and status reports for their parents. The magnetic clips, folders, and shelves will create a more organized technology workstation. The dry erase reusable pockets will allow students to work out problems or take notes while at their workstation.
If we receive these donations, then more students will have access to different types of technology.
We would have stories come alive with story DVDs. We would have IPad minis for 1/4 of my class to use at once. We would have educational software for our desktops. We would have toner for our printers for the students to print out their achievements and share them with their parents at home. We would also have organizational tools to make the technology workstation the best one in the school.
