Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students face any number of disadvantages. In an ever-evolving world of education, where knowing PowerPoint is no longer enough, I would like to change the way my students approach learning. I want to minimize the gap between them and those students with the advantages of great educational resources.

My students are wonderful and inquisitive, but hindered by their educational environment.

It's painful to have such a desire to engage them in multi-dimensional learning, and lack the resources. The seed is there, their desire to learn giving them a glow from the inside out, but their lack of exposure to technology limits their vision. I want to be able to show them the wonderful way you can engage yourself and others in learning through the use of technology: a video presentation is so much more fun than just reading a book report. It requires and teaches so many tiered skills, it's astounding, but with the current budget crisis, it's simply not possible.

My Project

I can't help but be humbled by the new technological resources available to students today. I remember being astounded by the pixilated figures on a large computer screen, today such technology is laughable when you can see high-definition pictures from the small screen of a cell phone. Technology has caused a remarkable changes in the way students can learn. People all over the country are designing little applications that engage children in learning numbers and spelling, sequence of events, screenwriting, story boarding...the list is infinite! Finally, finally, there's a device that can rival a video game consul in sheer brilliance, and surpass it in effectiveness. With an iPad2, my students will gain a better understanding of the technology used globally by competitive leaders in various fields. They will be able to participate and engage in the new interactive way of learning. It's a wonderful resource that is chameleon-like in its classroom uses.

My students are so excited about getting their hands on an iPad.

In my class, they read a different book each week and have to complete a book project when they finish. They would like to create video book reviews, much like you would see on "Reading Rainbow" to present to their classmates. Another project they are excited about is creating their own story/cartoon using an APP called "Toontastic." Please give them the fighting chance they deserve! Thank you for your support!
