My Students

Learning to use new technology requires a lot of brain power for me, but it seems to be second nature for this new generation. The problem is that my students often don't have access to new technology.

I teach in a high-poverty urban school, but just like kids anywhere, my first grade students are eager to learn and they all want to be successful in the classroom but they also want to have fun while they learn.

Finding what motivates them is the key, and what better way than with new technology!

My Project

I am requesting 1 iPad and 1 protective case for my classroom. Your donation to this project allows my low-income students a chance to level the playing field in terms of exposure to technology. Since laptops are too difficult for first graders to use effectively and independently, one iPad is a perfect alternative. Its drag/drop touchscreen is engaging and allows for immediate feedback and correction, which is critical when students are practicing skills independently. Having this technology, with all the numerous educational apps available, will allow individualized instruction and more time on-task during independent work. It will improve their technology skills and give them practice time to review math and literacy concepts.

The best thing about having this technology in the classroom is that students can continue to practice skills we've covered until they achieve mastery.

What's great is that they often don't even realize they are learning - they think they are just playing!
